Aggro Management
Aggro is the hate mobs have against a player character and every action increases that hate to the character performing it.
Who is responsible for the Aggro Management? Each and everyone in a group is responsible for Aggro Management
in different ways. The Tank does his best to keep the aggro on him. All other group members have to do their
best not to steal aggro from the Tank.
Since all Tanks are not created equal, some will keep the aggro better than others, you will have to learn to
adjust to the capacity of the Tank to hold aggro.
Some class have one and only one taunt. And this taunt affects only one mob. As you can see it is already
hard for these class to keep aggro, and even more if you don't adjust your play style.
Fighters have at least two taunts, some have more. So they have at least a taunt that affects only one mob and
a taunt that affects a group of mobs. Thus they are better to hold aggro but then again you will have to adjust your
play style not to steal aggro. You have a little more room for what action you can take.
Be aware that the group taunt affects a group of mobs that are linked together. If more than one group of mobs gets into the
battle, then it becomes nearly impossible for the Tank to keep the aggro. The group taunt affects only one of the
group of mobs, the Tank will have to wait till the timer on this taunt is up to select a mob of the other group and
use the group taunt on them. In the meantime, if someone has hit one of the other group of mobs, taking back aggro is
almost impossible.
Be aware also that Area Of Effect (AOE) will most likely steal aggro from the Tank, and particularly at the
beginning of the fight. Most of the attack of the Tank hits only one mob, so only the hate of this mob increases
toward the Tank. The hate of the other mobs increases toward the Tank only when the group taunt is used and that
is a lot less frequent. Thus hitting a mob other than the one the Tank targets will most likely steal aggro.
For those who have a pet, the pet generates its own aggro. Unless it is the Tank, always wait till the Tank have
taunted before sending it into the battle. Control your pet, make sure that it always attacks the same mob that
the Tank targets. Otherwise it steals aggro and it makes the work of the Tank even more difficult.
Unless you are the Healer, the Healer's bodyguard, or a Mezzer, you should at all times target the Tank. No matter
what happens you should keep targeting the Tank and inform the group of what is happening. As a guideline, if you
are making damage or debuffing, you have to be targeting the Tank.
-
Never ever do any action before the Tank has taunted
-
Always target the Tank when making damage or debuffing
-
Start the fight using your least powerful Spell/Combat Art and built up gradually toward your most powerful
Spell/Combat Art. This gives time to the Tank to build up his aggro.
-
Never ever hit a mob other than the one the Tank targets
-
Keep at your job no matter what happens
-
If you steal aggro, don't hit back at the mob. This would increases its hate toward you and only make
it harder to remove it from you. Also do not try to flee, let the Tank know about it, get closer to the
Tank and he will try to get the aggro back to him when possible. If you have reduce hate buffs, use them
-
Keep the group inform of what is happening
-
Don't panic! Panic is the reason number one for group wipe out. Stay calm and do your job
